Finish the Inside of Your Cabinet

Finished cabinet interior
A beautiful finish inside highlights the contents and means no yellowing or peeling shelf liners to worry about.

We always recommend finishing the inside of your cabinets—bathroom, kitchen, study, closet. There are a number of reasons why this is important.

  1. Finishing both sides of a piece of wood or plywood allows the wood or plywood to deal with moisture absorption evenly. This prevents warping.

  2. Finishing the interior of the cabinet prevents staining the wood. It is true that the wrong kind of paint product used inside a cabinet can trap smells from chemical emissions. That’s why we always use a pre-catalyzed lacquer. This stable compound resists moisture and stains and emits no odor when dry.

  3. It’s always best to complete a project while you have the pieces and the area prepped for the work. Painting cabinets is a long, expensive process and while you’re doing the outside, take the time to finish the inside for years of satisfaction.

At ARHTX, we never let a cabinet or drawer go unfinished inside. Finished interior cabinets and drawers are easy to clean and maintain. We don’t recommend using any shelving liners, adhesive or otherwise. The lacquer finish will not yellow like the liner and spills on the lacquer are wiped away with a cloth and water. Lacquer resists moisture. If you want to use a liner to protect the interior surface from heavy appliances or pots and pans, we recommend a simple rubber mat that is laid over the finished shelving.

Nothing says quality and professionalism like finishing the inside of a cabinet. It may look like a hidden space, but it’s not. We open and close our cabinet doors and drawers to reveal not just the items inside but the beautiful space in which they reside.
