Pricing Your Cabinet Remodel

Note the upper and lower cabinets and their associated linear feet.

Cabinet pricing is usually estimated by linear foot.  Upper cabinets and lower cabinets are frequently priced separately. The shallower upper cabinets, usually about 12 inches deep, are sometimes slightly less expensive than the deeper lower cabinets, usually about 24 inches deep, which run at a higher price. Sometimes with a full set of uppers and lowers, the pricing is amortized so that there is one averaged pricing estimate for the entire cabinet grouping.

The price of a cabinet is made up of several important costs: the cost of the drawer slides, the cost of the door hinges, the sheets of wood needed, and the current market cost of the wood. The price of wood can vary widely, so most estimates are only good for 30 days.

Also included in the price of a cabinet is the complexity of design indicating more labor, the finish that’s used, lacquer and stain are surprisingly expensive, the delivery and installation. Installation costs will be dependent on the surface the cabinets are attached to, sheetrock or concrete blocks, and the complexity of the cabinet construction onsite. Onsite work is always more because of the need to transport tools and heavy equipment.

There’s a lot of variability in the cost of cabinets per linear foot (lf). Completed cabinet prices can range from $125 to $650 per lf. Working within your budget is easy by modifying designs and keeping onsite work to a minimum. At ARHTX our most common remodel cost is about $350 per lf for a high-end custom kitchen with buildout additions like specialized interior shelf pullout drawers. You can get what you want without the big price tag and be happy for many, many years.
