Cabinet Functionality and Versatility is in the Little Extras

Hide your toaster oven on a cabinet pull out and still have it ready for use any time you need it.

When you’re planning the kitchen or office or closet or bathroom of your dreams don’t forget the extra functionality that can be added easily when you’re custom building from the ground up. That extra functionality can come as pullout drawers, specialty racks, appliance ports, and creative spaces.

  • Pullout drawers. These can be as simple as the addition of a drawer inside a cabinet. Or they can be more specific for cookie sheets and muffin pans, pot lids, leftover dishes, subdivided areas for small niche dishes such as flan, crème brulee, tortes, or really any organizational need you might have. In the office, segmented drawers for needed tools and supplies. In the bathroom, make-up compartments, dedicated hair tool and accessories spaces, pantries that allow for growth of inventory. We built one pullout drawer in a cupboard for an incredible measuring cup collection.

  • Specialty racks. Racks can be added to the inside edge of a cabinet. These racks can be used for spices, cleaning supplies, knives, cooking utensils, baking essentials, cutting boards, or anything that is narrow and can be slid into a small space on the back of the cupboard door. On one remodel, we added cookie cutter slots for a home bakery. Functional and decorative!

  • Appliance ports. Computer printers are an easy cabinet addition. We have also created in-cabinet dedicated spaces for toasters, small convection ovens, air fryers, and even rotisseries. You can store crockpots and blenders in your cabinets but its best to use those on your countertop.

  • Creative spaces. This can be so many things. A little nook for paper towels. Dispensers for aluminum foil, plastic wrap and parchment paper. Bathroom essentials in under counter bins. Office supplies in tip out quick access spaces. There’s no end to what you can add.

Versatilty in your home or office starts with creating for current needs and remembering that you will add to what you have over the years. Create for now and with an eye to the future.
